Sainik School in kuchaman city is residential school established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society governed by Ministry of Defence with a military bias. These schools are affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education and have a common curriculum, system of selection and examination.
They were conceived in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, then Defence Minister of India, to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst the Officer cadre of the Indian Military, and to prepare students for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy. Today there are over 24 such schools covering all the states of the country.
Admissions in Sainik School are meant for boys only. The entrance examination is held for admission to class VI & IX. Boys who are between the age of 10-11 years and 13-14 years respectively on 1st July of the year in which admission is sought are eligible to take the examination.
Admission is based on an entrance test comprising Mathematics, Language and Intelligence of 100 marks in each for Class VI; Mathematics(200), Science(75), English(100) and Social Science(75) for Class IX, followed by Interview and medical examination.
Sainik Schools admit boys in classes VI & IX on the basis of their merit in the Entrance Examination and an Interview and in Class XI boys are admitted on the basis of the marks scored in Class X Board examination.
Boys seeking admission in Class VI should be 10-11 yrs of age and for Class IX they should be aged 13-14 yrs as on 01 July in the year admission is being sought.
67% seats are reserved for boys of the State where the school is located. The balance 33% seats are open to boys from all other States and UT’s. Within this broad classification, 25% seats are reserved for sons of service personnel including ex-servicemen while 15% seats are reserved for SC and 7½% for ST candidates.
